Wild Thing

Sox Power-up on Tribe

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his ninth save in as many chances, tying the major league record for saves by a rookie in April, set by Kansas City's Mike MacDougal in 2003.

Foulke Music

How many throws must a man make well, Before you call him a strike? Foulky throws 2 nice innings of middle relief to help Sox salvage one in Toronto.

Oh Canada!!

"We were told the era of Home Run Derby would be over. We were told the Red Sox would henceforth be constructed on the ancient twin pillars of pitching and defense. We were told this team was no longer interested in bludgeoning teams into submission, that this year games would be won in a less flamboyant manner. All this is coming to pass. If you are addicted to offense, there's a team down in the Bronx on its way to scoring 1,000 runs. Perhaps you can pledge allegiance to it." - Bob Ryan

"Not so much." - Rob Glenn

This Ain't Your Daddy's Red Sox

You know something's up when Manny's defense in left is more important than his hitting. Schilling and Beckett are both 3-0 and Papelbon's ERA is 0.00. It's been a few years since defense has been able to carry this team. Injuries have put some major holes in the lineup, but the Sox have been able to cover them with leather (OK, Wily Mo is a No No). But let's not go crazy just yet. The hitting lineup Francona put up on Saturday was PA-THET-TIC, and the Big Tub of Goo makes one wonder if trading Arroyo was a mistake.

All-in-all, a good start.

Opening Day in Boston

This royal throne of kings, this sceptered isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in a silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this Fenway . . . .

A Day at the Pahk

Great day at the Yards.

Breeze was blowing and Timmy's knuckler was bobbing.

Luis Matos looked like a little leaguer.

Millar played the embedded Red Sox for us. Couple of nice fielding plays by Kevin led to Sox runs and he looked awful at the plate. Foulke pitched a nice 8th.

One thing though, no home runs, no extra base hits for the Sox. The Old Towne Team actually laid down a sacrifice bunt. Looks like a new era boys and girls, pitching and defense.

RSN in Charm City

Sawx at Camden Yards this weekend. Thinking about dropping by for a couple bleacher seats to check up Coco and Willie Mo. But Beware the Bird, O's have been trouble the last few years. I'll say hello to Kevin for you.

Bend it Like Beckett - Sox Take Rangers and Series

Uh, Dude that was dominating. Oh, and by the way, Keith, thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you, because Papelbon appears to be Rocket Redux.

Opening Day

Happy New Year. Anything happen over the Winter? Ah, Opening Day, everyone is 0-0 and Giambi and Sheffield are starting a new steroids cycle. Questions, oh, so many questions. Is Schill back? is Foulke still interested in Bazeball? What about Lowell and Beckett? Is Papel Bon? Looks like pitching and defense will be the new by-words in Baseball AS (After-Steroids). But Manny will still be Manny and we're all just waiting to climb on Big Pappi's back yet again. Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
